Dog-Friendly Beaches in New Brunswick

If you are planning a trip to the coast of New Brunswick, Canada, your dog will be pleased to learn that there are many beaches that allow dogs. Take your four-footed friend with you on the beach or relax by the water while they explore. You can be sure that all these beaches and towns offer excellent amenities for any season of the year.

Restigouche River Provincial Park

Restigouche River Provincial Park  is located at Bas Point Road and is open during May 15th-September 30th. Dogs are allowed on leash.

Castalia Marsh Beach

Located on Grand Manan island, Castalia Marsh Beach is a great dog-friendly beach if you’re in the area.

It’s a perfect place to admire the beautiful coastal landscape while letting your dog off-leash to run in the sand, marsh grass, or in the water.

It’s worth noting that it’s very rocky to swim, though this won’t be a problem for most dogs, and the water is clean.

Picnic tables and parking is available on-site.

Connors Bros. Nature Preserve at Pea Point

Next to the Grand Manan Ferry terminal is the Connors Bros. Nature Preserve at Point Pea. There’s more than 100 acres of land here to explore, including 2 kilometers of coastline.

There’s free parking available and generally spots are available. It’s an amazing place to visit to enjoy the coastal scenery while letting your dog jump into the water.

There’s also a beautiful lighthouse here but don’t forget to keep the tides in mind, especially if your dog is in the water.

Blacks Harbour is nearby if you’re looking for somewhere else to explore.

Stephenville Beach

Stephenville Beach is located at Route 340 and is open year round. Dogs are allowed on leash only, but must be on their own property when entering the beach area and parking lot. The beach offers lifeguard services. Dogs are required to be licensed and leashed. This beach is geothermally heated in the winter and cooled in the summer preventing thick ice from forming around your pet.

Lawrencetown Beach Provincial Park

Lawrencetown Beach Provincial Park is located at Rte. 336 and is open from May 15th to September 30th. Dogs are allowed on leash but are not allowed in the playground or in the campground area. There is a dog beach that allows dogs to swim, play fetch, and run off-leash. The water is clean and warm.

Shippagan Harbour’s Beach

Shippagan Harbour’s Beach has a sandy shoreline with picnic tables, parking, a lifeguard station, and public washrooms (seasonal).

Dogs are allowed on leash at this provincial park and must be on their own property when entering the park area and parking lot.

This park has a picnic shelter, covered beach space, and lifeguard services. Dogs are required to be licensed and leashed.

Point Wolfe Beach

Point Wolfe Beach is located at the end of Point Wolfe Road. Dogs are allowed on leash at this piece of land just outside the town of Shediac, but are not allowed in the playground or in the campground area. This area is usually undeveloped except for seasonal parking and public washrooms. There is a boardwalk along the beach.

The Town Beach at Bathurst

The Town Beach at Bathurst has a sandy shoreline with picnic tables, parking, a lifeguard station, a playground, and public washrooms (seasonal).

Dogs are allowed on leash at this provincial park and must be on their own property when entering the park area and parking lot.

Pointe-Des-Neiges/Pointe-Aux-Meules Provincial Park

Pointe-Des-Neiges/Pointe-Aux-Meules Provincial Park has a sandy shoreline with picnic tables, parking, a lifeguard station, playgrounds, and public washrooms (seasonal). Dogs are allowed on leash at this provincial park and must be on their own property when entering the park area and parking lot. The water is clean and the temperature of the water is always between 10C and 24C. The beach has a large rainbow trout population which attracts anglers to this beach.

Tips for taking your dog to the beach

Dogs must be on a leash when:

  • on the boardwalk
  • in the parking lot
  • in the parking lot at the day-use area at the start of beach
  • in the park picnic shelter and/or playgrounds
  • near or on any lawn, grassy area or blankets (for protection from marauding wildlife).
